In the kneel to hip hinge drill, we are working on the proper load into your back hip creating hip hinge during the load phase, and also having a controlled motion going forward. This drill starts with the hitter being in a kneeling position. They're going to have their back leg up and their front leg down. They're going to start with their bat in their normal hitting position, whatever that looks like.
As the hitter stands up, we want to make sure that they keep hinged at the hip, not standing straight up. So a lot of hitters will just stand up and go right into their swing. We want to make sure that they hinge into their hip and also are not getting way outside the back foot. We want to keep that pressure on the inside and then have a controlled movement going forward.
