One of the things that all hitters, whether they're young or old, are trying to do is to create some separation and trying to get to an attacking posture. This drill's goal is to help hitters create separation as the hitter strides forward.
One of the issues we have with a lot of hitters is that they create separation in their load or stride, but not as they're going forward. So this drill is called the Bow and Arrow drill.
In this drill, we're going to have our hitter set up, and they're going to start in launch position.
So they've already got their load and stride down; they start in that good launch position.
Here, they're going to take their bottom hand and go forward, create this bow and arrow look, and really focus on creating some scap load and some separation here.
This is what we call attacking posture. And they'll feel this right here in their scap. The hitter is then going to take it back and swing just from that position right there.
One of the things to make note of this drill is to make sure that the hitter doesn't reload. So let's show what reload would look like. So we'll start in that launch position. Get that arm out. Create that bow, get that good separation. And we do not want that hitter to reload when they swing.
We want them to swing straight from there. So let's do it one more time, the right way. So we'll get started in launch position. Put that arm out. Get that bow and arrow ready, and swing right from there. And that is the Bow and Arrow drill.
