For the band assisted hip hinge drill, you're going to use a resistance band that's appropriate for the hitters age. What the hitter is going to do is put the band around their waist with both feet going through.
Coach is going to go into where the catcher would be, going into a squat and the hitter is going to start in their launch position meaning they've already striated, they have a good stretch, and a good hip hinge position. You'll notice that if the hitter goes on their toes, by pulling at their hip with the band they will end up drifting and falling forward towards home plate.
If the hitter were to stand up out of their swing, they're going to be pulled forward going into their swing. While doing this drill, make sure you keep that good hip hinge over the hitters toes throughout as they go through.
Again, this is a drill that really helps with that hip hinge and helps with hitters who roll onto their toes. One key thing to note is that the ball can't be too low or the band is going to hit the bat. Also, if you have a hitter that arm bars or drops their bat behind them, they'll be susceptible to hitting the rubber band as well. So avoid this drill with those hitters.
